The Berkeley Scientific Journal accepts applications from interested UC Berkeley undergraduate students at the beginning of every semester. Applications for the Spring 2026 semester are now closed and will reopen in the Fall 2026 semester.

First-semester journal staff are required to enroll in the 2-unit DeCal (Democratic Education at Cal) course that accompanies our organization. Our staff writers are trained in practice of science journalism and communication. Prospective members may apply to be either a writer (eligible to double as a design, publicity & finance, or copy intern) or a member of the design team (dedicating all their time at BSJ to designing layouts).
