The Berkeley Scientific Journal is committed to inspiring the next generation of aspiring scientists by fostering youth interest in STEM in the Bay Area and beyond. As part of this endeavor, we have developed a virtual science journalism internship program for high school students to empower young minds with scientific writing/research skills as they prepare for future academic and professional pursuits. Applications for this program will next open in the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester.
A virtual Info Session will be held on August 24th, 2024, from 9-10AM PST. To receive the zoom link to these info sessions, please fill out the following Interest Form.
Our program is held on a semesterly basis (aligned with the UC Berkeley academic calendar), and will include:
- Teaching students the necessary scientific reading, writing, and research navigation skills for a future career in STEM.
- Opportunities for students to explore their scientific interests and practice science journalism by writing an article for the Berkeley Scientific Journal.
- Options to virtually attend our guest speaker events on the UC Berkeley campus, where renowned Cal professors across a range a scientific disciplines come share their research endeavors with students.
- Mentorship from current UC Berkeley students in terms of career paths, research, and other available opportunities in the STEM field.
Our application will open on August 15th, 2024, and may be found here. It will be due on September 7th, 2024. A more detailed description of program goals may be found here. We are not looking for students who already have an extensive background in research. We are interested in those who are motivated to explore their scientific curiosities and learn the necessary writing/communication skills to pursue a career in STEM—no prior scientific experience is necessarily needed.
